    On the first album “Zwerver” (wanderer in Dutch), Toasaves starts from the compositions and the ‘Groot Liedboek’ by Wannes van de Velde (1937-2008), the singer-songwriter who blew new life into the oldest surviving ballads and litanies in his home port of Antwerp. Tristan Driessens wrote new arrangements of both anonymous medieval songs and original work by Van de Velde. It goes without saying that an eclectic dialogue with the East, which runs like a red thread through Driessens’ career, was not missing. It ties in with the nomadic spirit and openness of Wannes van de Velde, and reveals and reinforces the primal power of the early music repertoires.

Toasaves opts for an open ending for this Flemish song that ends very badly in its original version. A girl goes to get wine and is urged to keep her “jug” clean. But on the way she finds a rider in her path. While in the traditional version the rider assaults her, now in the Greek song he sings about a small flower that promised itself to him. The choir advises her to hold on tightly to her jug.
The song opens with an Ikariotikos (Greek: Ικαριώτικος), a traditional dance from Ikaria, a Greek island in the northeast of the Aegean Sea. Music and dance are the main forms of entertainment on Ikaria. Throughout the year, Icarians organize baptisms, marriages, feasts and religious festivals where one can listen and dance to traditional Icarian music.
